Norman W. Loney is recently retired Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He is the former Chair of the Otto H. York Department of Chemical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Fellow of AIChE. He has served as Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and Science Advisor to the NASA DEVELOP Program. He is Associate Editor of Chemical Product and Process Modeling. He has authored or coauthored more than 72 publications and presentations relating to the use of Applied Mathematics in Chemical Engineering since joining the Chemical Engineering department in 1991. His most outstanding publication is the textbook: “Applied Mathematical Methods for Chemical Engineers” now in its 3rd Ed., published by Taylor & Francis. His book is adopted by several schools and is sold in more than 25 countries. Dr. Loney is a member of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and The Mathematical Association of America (MAA).
Dr. Loney has been awarded several certificates of recognition from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the American Society for Engineering Education for research contributions. He is the Newark College of Engineering 2013 Saul K. Fenster Innovation in Engineering Education award winner. He was awarded the Excellence in Teaching by the Newark College of Engineering in 2007. Dr. Loney has mentored a number of Ph.Ds, Masters and more than 100 Undergraduate students both at NJIT and NASA. In 2014, Professor Loney was the 2014 Newark College of Engineering “Excellence in Advising” award winner.
Prior to joining NJIT, Dr. Loney, a licensed professional engineer (inactive), practiced engineering at Foster Wheeler, M.W. Kellogg Company, Oxirane Chemical Company, and Exxon Chemical Company.
