Mrs. Deidre Simpson
Educator of the Year (K-6)
Deidre Simpson is now teaching her 30th year with the Cincinnati Public Schools. She also just completed her 27th summer teaching at Project Connect Summer Program for students who are experiencing homelessness. Through the school year, Mrs. Simpson teaches science to 5th and 6th grade students at Evanston Academy, where she has also been a lead teacher for the past fifteen years. She has been a robotics coach for the past ten years and has earned close to fifty trophies and awards over that ten year span. Although Mrs. Simpson’s first love is science, she is also teaching English Language Arts this school year whereas she is National Board Certified in Early Adolescence English Language Arts and has plans to merge the literature and research of science ideas with the depth of critical thinking of S.T.E.M. concepts. For five years Mrs. Simpson worked closely with scientists at the National Air and Space Museum Center / Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. planning a science program that virtually brought the Smithsonian and S.T.E.M. concepts into the science classroom. This N.A.S.M. project along G.E. and the Cincinnati Public Schools was nationally recognized and a great success. Deidre Simpson wears many hats, she is also an Ohio Resident Educator Program Facilitator for the Cincinnati Public Schools and the state of Ohio where she has coached and mentored over one hundred newly hired teachers to the district and worked closely with them for the first four years of their teaching career. She has also been a student teacher intern supervisor for over fifty college students at the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University. Deidre Simpson has her Administrative Licensure from the University of Cincinnati and an Urban Leadership Certification from Harvard University. She’s married to her high school sweetheart, the proud mother of one child who is an Engineer and the “mother teacher” of many students who she passionately teach and deeply adore. Her motto is to live, laugh and love treating people the way you want to be treated. Her career goal is to leave a legacy of love and a passion for learning.
