Miss Cari’a Thacker

Wesleigh White Memorial Scholar

Cari’a Thacker is a senior at Cincinnati Christian School. In her free time, she loves to paint, sculpt, watch YouTude, and Twitch, also riding her longboard. She’s played basketball for 10 years, being the team captain for the past two years. She’s an active member of the National Honors Society since the 10 grade. She’s been traveling abroad since the age of 11, with People to People Student Ambassador Program, and can’t stop, going to England, France, and many more countries.  She absolutely loves to travel, meet new people, and learn about other cultures; her most recent trip was to the Decomican Republic for her second mission trip with her school, she loves the culture and the country, it’s amazing there, she says. She’s loved STEM since she can remember, being the science “geek” and the math “nerd.” She’s the only senior in her class who has taken two sciences in the past two years. She also is one of two girls in their robotics club called, Hot Cup o’ Java, which was started last year.

Cari’a is a leader she’s been the designated Community Group Leader for the past 3 years, Secretary for the Student Council, and has participated in Chick-Fil-a Leadership Academy for 1 year. The field of study she’s interested in is Engineering more specifically, Mechanical Engineering. Cari’a loves to build things and figure out how objects work; this has resulted in many broken remotes and appliances in her home, having some of them being put back together still working (thanks mom). Recently, She was blessed with having the opportunity to intern as an instructor at a STEAM camp (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) for the summer. There, she was able to teach kids about the different aspects of STEAM, while applying fun activities and challenges. That experience has improved her communication skills, patience, and many more; she has much more respect for teachers now.

Her goal is to attend the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Also, to make the STEM field more inclusive, showing young girls and people of color that they can do anything; remembering her favorite scripture, Philippians 4:13 showing people with Christ, anything is possible, no matter where they came from or what they have been through.
